Displacement and Development: IDPs as Change Agents to Build Peace
Presented by DT Global
Many development programs engage internally displaced persons as part of “other vulnerable groups” rather than the active community voices and changemakers that they are. This panel will explore how international development programs can effectively engage IDPs as peacebuilders and change agents in their communities, drawing on examples from Sudan, Syria, and Ukraine. It will weave in how policies and strategies can support these efforts and highlight recommendations and areas for improvement, bringing attention to IDPs as critical “sparks of hope” who can advance peacebuilding efforts in a world in crisis.

Localization in Action: A Trilateral Perspective to Achieve Results
Presented by Tetra Tech
Effective localization involves a wide and complex range of stakeholders and actors. How can implementing partners support USAID to achieve the objectives of the Agency’s localization policy? In this moderated panel discussion, we explore the impact of localization efforts among USAID, local partners, and its support contractors.
Yolanda Martinez, Regional Donor and Government Coordinator for USAID/El Salvador, will discuss the Agency's perspective on crafting a comprehensive Spanish-language partnership training and capacity strengthening program (CAPTALO!) tailored for local and nontraditional community-serving organizations. Dr. Solomon Orero, Chief of Party for the USAID Boresha Jamii (UBJ) health project, will discuss the organization’s experience as a first-time, nontraditional USAID implementing partner in Kenya. In representing USAID’s Partnerships Incubator, implemented by Kaizen, A Tetra Tech Company, and their role as a global support mechanism, Dr. Brandon Sitzmann will discuss how their support has bridged gaps between USAID and more than 75 local partners in five years. Leveraging Political Economy Analysis for Effective Government Engagement
Presented by Oxford Policy Management
Effectively achieving development outcomes requires close collaboration with governments, often amidst diverse and competing interests. Our panel will explore the many ways to work collaboratively with national and sub-national governments to deliver development outcomes in low- and middle-income countries. At Oxford Policy Management we often work to deliver public policy reform in contexts that are in ‘crisis’ - characterised by political instability, capacity constraints, fragmented governance, and inadequate regulatory frameworks.
This panel will be a conversation between technical experts in which they discuss ways to use political economy analyses and strengthen institutional systems, policies, and capacities to achieve sustainable outcomes. Examples will be drawn from the energy, environment, and governance sectors, drawing on diverse experiences from regions such as Pakistan, India, and Nigeria.

Private Sector Engagement: Shifting Paradigms to Promote Development
Presented by Deloitte
The world cannot reach its development goals without effectively engaging the private sector, which generates most new jobs, economic growth, and innovation. To date, private sector engagement efforts have focused mainly on companies' philanthropic sides. But the resources for development that can be accessed from Corporate Social Responsibility models and corporate foundations are relatively small. The real game-changer lies not in CSR or corporate philanthropy, but in harnessing the profit-making sides of business. Deloitte has assembled a panel of executives from the health, financial services, and food sectors to discuss a shift from corporate philanthropy to engaging profit-centers for large-scale development impact.

Risky Business: Catalytic Capital’s Role in Strengthening our Food Systems Resilience to Climate Change
Presented by Opportunity International
Smallholder farming is the most prevalent livelihood for families living in poverty around the world, accounting for 1/3 of the global food supply – and up to 80% of all food in developing countries.
Private and public sector investment is critical to addressing climate impact and helping those most vulnerable adapt to ongoing crises, but there is still hesitation to buy into these transformations. Less than 10% of global investments are focused on supporting adaptation efforts, and the Climate Policy Initiative estimates only 0.8% of climate finance went to small-scale farmers and agri-food MSEs in 2023.
What innovations can speed the flow of investments to households, enterprises, communities and economies at the forefront of climate impact? This panel will shine a light on some of the greatest barriers between climate financing and the people and institutions who need it most – and what we can do to remove those barriers.

Defending the Defenders in the Year of Elections
More than 60 countries – home to roughly half of the world’s population and about 50 percent of world’s GDP – are holding elections this year. This Year of Elections is both a huge opportunity and a risk: this year could either help strengthen democracy movements or usher in a new wave of democratic backsliding.
Learn about the importance of and best practices in mitigating risks to civil society activists as they promote global democratic renewal especially during elections--the results of which can have profound implications for the provision of quality education, healthcare, economic growth, and security. This session will highlight the importance of protecting democratic spaces and activists-- from journalists, human rights defenders, anti-corruption activists, and beyond--in addressing both new and long-standing challenges and opportunities.

Untangling the Knot: Local Partnerships that Adapt and Work!
Presented by ACDI/VOCA
Many of us who work on MSD projects know the frustration of trying to adaptively engage local partners despite seemingly inflexible and inappropriate contract structures. Yes, there are few “unicorn” projects that surmount the challenges, but most get stuck trying to interpret, untangle, and work through all the requirements, rules, and regulations. ACDI/VOCA recently held an experimental series of clinics with our technical and operations staff from six early-stage MSD projects that we implement around the world. Through these clinics, our teams uncovered both challenges and opportunities to improve partnership processes. They also achieved actual change by working through problems in each stage of the partnership cycle.
In the spirit of innovation and a desire to see other MSD projects overcome these complex barriers, our teams developed operational guidance based on insights from the clinics. Join a few of these team members and other industry leaders to hear their insights and recommendations for creating adaptive partnerships.

Creating More Just, Equitable, and Sustainable Projects by Applying Kingian Nonviolence Principles
Presented by Training Resources Group
As we look to overcome some of the globe’s most urgent and daunting challenges, the way in which we work together to achieve these goals should reflect that kind of world we seek to create and support. The theory and practice of nonviolence has been at the core of some of history’s most successful and enduring movements for positive change. Nonviolence is also rooted in cultural traditions, wisdom, and experiences from across the globe. This session looks specifically at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s 6 principles of nonviolence, which outlined the organizing philosophy for the US Civil Rights Movement.
This session invites participants into conversation about how they see their own work in international development through the lens of these 6 principles and what it means for how they choose to design, manage, and lead projects that are intended to create more justice, equity, and sustainability.

Resilience in the Face of Food Insecurity and Climate-Smart Agriculture
Despite efforts to eliminate global hunger and malnutrition by 2030, the UNDP reports that since 2015, hunger and food insecurity have seen alarming growth. Last year's Annual Conference panel on food security focused on this distressing trend. This year's panel will zero in on the disturbing nexus between food security and climate change. Climate-related extremes are having severe negative impacts on food security and livelihoods, especially on the poor. At the same time, estimates show that the global food system accounts for a third of greenhouse gas emissions. If global food security and zero hunger are to be achieved and livelihoods preserved, food systems need to be resilient to the impacts of climate change while also curbing greenhouse emissions. This panel will discuss these challenges and share best practices for addressing them.

Partnering with and Investing in Global Women's Green and Blue Business Initiatives
Presented by Counterpart International
This session will explore effective models for investing in women-led green and blue business initiatives, or those supporting sustainable environmental and agricultural processes, martime and ocean conservation, clean energy and more. Green and blue businesses - such as in the renewable energy sector - are rapidly expanding. Yet, only 29% of the 80 million jobs in the green economy are held by women. The number is even less in the blue economy. Women are innovating market-based solutions though, and need strong investment and equitable partnerships. Panelists will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities for making this a reality in the future.

Panelists will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities for making this a reality in the future.

A Conversation with USAID Leaders
Over six decades ago, the US Congress enacted the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which created USAID and declared that "a principal objective of the foreign policy of the United States is the encouragement and sustained support of the people of developing countries in their efforts to acquire the knowledge and resources essential to development and to build the economic, political, and social institutions which will improve the quality of their lives."
Today, as many parts of the world struggle with innumerable crises of different nature and graveness, the call to action articulated in the Foreign Policy Act of 1961 becomes even more relevant and important. We will hear from key USAID leaders on how they are responding to this call to action and learn about the Agency's efforts to spark hope for resilience, recovery, and growth.
