Darlene Irby is global health digital health expert and currently serves the Director of Digital Health and Health Information and Interim Senior Director of Data Science, Learning and Impact at Jhpiego.  Darlene has over 15  years implementing health information systems for domestic and international organizations, with deep expertise in the creation, design and implementation of international and national  health information technology. She has effectively deployed digital and mobile systems throughout Africa and the Caribbean and has facilitated the establishment of health information programs to include the effective design  of scalable and interoperable technologies. Working across donors, such as USAID, CDC, BMGF and private organizations such as Pfizer and Merck, she has lead HIS prime projects as principal investigator across many countries such as Indonesia, Mozambique, Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Haiti, and Uganda. She  has directed software development and programming teams in the creation of EMRs, referral systems, project management systems, mobile data collection, point of service care and basic diagnostic tools. Prior to joining Jhpiego, she was Senior Director of Programs ( MEL, Innovation, Technology and Global Health) at the QED Group; and worked for over 12 years at Palladium where she led Health Informatics as Senior Director of Informatics and ICT.  Prior to her career in International Development , Darlene worked for over 10 years in academia as Senior Director at major medical academic centers of medicine and research such  at Georgetown, George  Washington and University of Maryland. She has authored and co-authored a number of abstracts and presentations.  She hold as Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Economics and International Studies from Elmira College in New York and a Master’s degree in Economic and Social Development from the University of Pittsburgh. ​
