Dr. Hellen Amuguni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University with technical expertise in infectious disease, One Health, animal models for infectious disease vaccinology, epidemiology and gender analysis. For eight years, until January 2020, she was the Tufts Senior Technical Lead for the USAID-Emerging Pandemics Threat (EPT)-One Health Workforce project for Africa, working with eight countries to build capacity to prevent, detect and respond to emerging infectious disease threats using a One Health approach. She is the Principal Investigator of the Tufts Cummings- University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) One Health Collaborative grant, which focuses on multidisciplinary training, research and infectious disease surveillance in Rwanda. She is also the PI for an IDRC funded Gender and Livestock Innovations grant that focuses on women’s empowerment and engagement in the livestock vaccine value chain in three countries in Africa. Currently she is doing a study that examines the sex and gender-based differences, risks, impacts and consequences of COVID-19.
