Matthew Meredith is a founding partner at Lixia Capsia Gestionis (LixCap) LLC as well as an expert in cold chain and blended finance with nearly 20 years of in-country experience managing projects in developing markets. With years of resident experience in emerging markets, he understands the challenges and realities of executing projects in complex markets. Matthew is a technical expert in agricultural trade logistics and financial intermediation for temperature-controlled logistics businesses, with a broad experience set as an operator, advisor, and investor. He has served as team leader on cold chain assessments in Benin, Cambodia, Morocco, Kenya, Ethiopia, Benin, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and is leading ongoing work in the Philippines and Bangladesh.
With a nuanced understanding of market systems, supply chain dynamics and econometric forecasting capabilities, his roots in the temperature-controlled logistics sector can be traced to 2003 when he founded a frozen food distribution company, Ice Age Ice AG, in Germany. Within 5 years, the company grew from 30 customers to 3,500 points of sale. Having managed national cold chain distribution with an owned vehicle fleet and contracting with distribution partners, Matthew intimately understands efficient cold chain production, storage, and logistics costs. Matthew went on to found Atlas Cold Ports SA which later became Friopuerto SA, the largest port-oriented cold storage facility in the North African Maghreb, where he remains a board member. He is actively working on developing cold storage in Cambodia, Benin, and Senegal. He has expertise in assessing agribusiness cold chain supply in emerging markets, from harvesting to final delivery, with the goal of catalyzing private sector capital. Matthew has experience working with a range of donors, including the World Bank Group, development finance institutions, and private sector operators. He has an M.B.A from the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business (United States) and a B.A. from Tufts University (United States) in International Relations. In addition to a professional level of German and French, he has advanced Arabic language training.
