Paula Cristina Sierra-Correa, Ph.D.
Head of Marine Research and Information, Marine and Coastal Research Institute (INVEMAR)
Paula Sierra-Correa is a Colombian marine biologist who serves as the Head of Marine Research and Information at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research (INVEMAR), linked to Colombia’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. She has a PhD in marine ecosystem-based climate change adaptation and a master’s degree in geo-informatics and coastal zone management from ITC-Twente University, The Netherlands.
Paula has worked for INVEMAR since 1996 and was part of the team that advanced coastal zone policy in Colombia. She is a leader of European Union Action on mangroves, seagrasses and local communities at the Caribbean (MAPCO initials in Spanish). She was also a leader of GEF project “Design and Implementation of Marine Protected Areas Subsystem in Colombia”. She has deep expertise in coastal planning and policy, and climate change issues ranging from impacts and vulnerability to adaptation and mitigation. Throughout her career, she has supported and/or led more than 30 research projects (at least 5 of which were international) and has authored more than 25 scientific publications.
